Encouraging Southern Voters of Color to Vote
An Opportunity to GOTV – to Get Out the Vote
Are you interested in helping to empower under-represented voters of color to vote? Black voters, especially in rural areas of southern states, are far less likely to vote than white voters. Reclaim Our Vote is a major effort of the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, Center for Common Ground. It was founded to educate and empower under-represented voters in voter suppression states to engage in elections and advocate for their right to vote.
Reclaim Our Vote reaches out to infrequent, registered voters of color in selected counties in several southern states. The Center for Common Ground has measured the outcomes and found that these outreach efforts, including sending postcards, improve participation rates in important elections.
Rodef Shalom members and friends helped Get Out The Vote for the 2022 elections. Our team of 25 writers wrote 1,200 postcards!! We also sent many postcards to reach voters for the 2024 primary elections.
You can help write postcards to 20 registered infrequent voters of color!
How do you start? Packets of cards are available for $11.00 - postcards, stamps, instructions, and your list of 20 names and addresses. You can meet for coffee, attend a postcarding party, or write cards at home.
We’re now ready to reach out to Black voters and other voters of color in Georgia and the Austin, Texas area for the general election. Postcards should be sent no earlier than mid-September, so you have a lot of time to write!
